The Beacon Hill, Mt. Baker and North Rainier neighborhoods of Seattle are currently divided by heavy vehicular traffic, which isolates the valley and makes pedestrian and bicycle use unsafe and unbearable.

Program goals are to activate and utilize the area around the new light rail station, to connect 3 neighborhoods with a broad east/west path, public plaza and program that supports the diverse needs of residents of South Seattle, and build upon the city’s larger public transportation goals.

FarmCITY is the response to community goals and to Gehl Architect’s methodology of developing places for people.  Along with occupation of underused infrastructure, the plan prioritizes pedestrian activity through scale of details and activities and hinges around the underpopulated lightrail station.
